Had
a good night sleep in the Teepee but were woken at 6.15 am by thunder so got up
and looked north to where we were heading and it was black as the ace of spades
and lots of lightening. We had to
go up this sharp high bit of road as the teepee site was down the bottom of a
gully by a creek (no wonder I was up 3 times during the night peeing, all you
could hear was running water all night). – to have a shower.
Came
out and got as wet as a shag going back to camp. After packing and loading up
the bike the rain stopped but we put wet gear on just in case and off we set
and never struck any more rain that day.
We
decided the day before to take the long way round and go in through the north
east entrance of Yellowstone park so that would take us on the Chief Joseph
Scenic Highway which would then take us up to Bear Tooth Pass. Everyone we had talked to recommend to
us that this was some of the best rides in the country.
We
were not disappointed. Now NZ has
some of the best scenery in the world and this was spectacular stuff that we
saw today (can't send picks as WiFi here not good).
Have
a big day tomorrow as driving right through the park to Jackson as can't get
accommodation in the park.
Lucky
to get a room here in Cook City as only 3 miles away from park so we are in
Montana at the moment and this wee town is nice but very touristy. Lots of tramping, fishing, mountain
bike riding etc and during the winter they have 3 to 4 metres of snow here and
cater to the bob sleders and it gets very isolated during the middle of winter
so half the population pack up and leave.
I
thought I would be sick of getting up early in the morning and spending 4 hours
plus on a bike but am rather enjoying it.
Going to be hard to adjust when I get back home.
Tonight
going to be quite night – tea, couple of Buds (still hot here) then bed.
Jane
and Liz, if you are reading this, disappointed with cell sim card. Haven't been able to use it for over a
week now. Says no service all the
time. Should have purchased a
local cell.
