Mammoth Mountain

Had a good ride this morning.  A bit chilly but arrived here at noon so time to explore.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and I will post just a few I took today.  This is the biggest ski resort in the USA.  Ok you Kiwis imagine Coronet Peak, the Remarkables, Cadrona, Treble Cone all on one mountain and you have this mountain.  Then 10 minutes up the road you have all these small lakes surrounded by pine forests and in among all this you have a very modern alpine village that looks like it came from Switzerland.

This is a bit scary.

All I asked for was her to take 1 photo then spent the next 10 minutes taking their family's photos.

This area is also known for small earthquakes and if you go for a short walk in the forest you can see where the earth opened up about 700 years ago.  It was strange walking through the forest, complete silence all you could hear we're your footsteps and when you stopped nothing.  Not a bird call or even a bee buzzing - felt very strange, as in the bush in NZ you can listen to all the different birds and I think most of us can say that's a bell bird or that's a etc etc.

Took gondola up to the top of Mammoth Mountain.  Was up about 11000 feet and what a view (am getting used to asking people take my picture and usually have to take a family shot for them).

Took some great pictures of the small lake (we would use them as duck ponds and go duck shooting on them in NZ).  Google this place - lots of history and they draw water for LA from here.

Don't know where I am heading tomorrow will see what happens.

3 pics earthquake crack/fault.
